Mike has been interested in photography for decades. His first Nikon camera was a Nikkormat purchased in the mid 70’s, followed by an early Nikon F3. He began taking classes in the early 80’s and set up his own darkroom, which eventually gave way to his daughter’s bathroom. After a photography hiatus while the children were in high school and college, Mike’s wife Judy convinced him to get that medium format camera he always wanted. A used Hasselblad soon was acquired with lenses and accoutrements.
After classes at Napa Valley College, Mike’s frustration with time limitations of getting into the darkroom was eased by the decision to set up his own digital darkroom. Mike uses three printers: Epson 2200 and 4000 for color, and Epson 1280 with piezography ink for black and white (he cannot accomodate to calling it grayscale). His major scanner is a Minolta Dimage Multipro but he also has aflatbed Epson 3200 photo.
Mike has been significantly influenced by two highly skilled, knowledgable and outstanding instructors: Bill Atkinson and Charlie Cramer (and their outstanding workshop held at Calypso Imaging in Santa Clara, CA.
For his daytime job, Mike is a trial consultant at Trial Behavior Consulting. He holds a Ph.D. in psychology and an M.P.H. in epidemiology, both from the University of California at Berkeley. Mike is happily married to Judy, has two lovely children (Kimberly and Toby), and a fantastic grandson, Matteas. Oh, and the partners of his children, Sven and Hiam are absolutely the best in the world
